What is a Rebel Mission?

A “Rebel Mission” is the term that Eric and Dylan used to describe their various exploits with pipe bombs, pranks, and revenge. They called themselves, “The Rebels,” and the missions they executed were the “Rebel Missions.” Sometimes they would toilet paper student’s houses, or superglue the locks on people’s front doors. (Which Eric once tried to blame Brooks Brown for.) Sometimes they would blow things up in the creek behind Eric’s house, or up in the mountains. Rebel Missions had a main goal, and a plan of action. Eric would use his website on http://members.aol.com/rebdomine to write about what the results of their missions were. In one instance, he wrote:

“Mother fucker blew BIG. Pazzie was a complete success and it blew dee fuck outa a little creek bed. Flipping thing was heart-pounding gut-wrenching brain-twitching ground-moving insanely cool! His brothers havent found a target yet though.”

“Atlanta, Pholus, Peltro, and Pazzie are complete. for those of you that dont know who they are, they are, they are the first 4 true pipe bombs created entirely from scratch by the rebels (REB and VoDkA). Atlanta and Pholus are each 1 1/4″ by 6″ pipes, Peltro is 1″ by 6″, and Pazzie is 3/4″ by 5″. Each if packed with powder with got from fountains, morter shells, and crackering balls. Each also has a +14″ morter shell type fuse. Now our only problem is to find the place that will be “ground zero.” Me and VoDkA also made 2 more noisy crickets.”

“God damit i’m sick of people saying “wick” when talking about fireworks! Don’ falkin’ say anothuh falkin’ WICK or I’s gone to rip yer falkin’ HAID off and YOU-rinate down yo’ falkin’ neck!! ITS FUSE!”

Eric recounted almost all of their exploits on his website as well as plans for future Rebel Missions. There were other people who would participate in these missions with them, although in order to protect their identities their names will not be listed here. Some of those friends backed away as soon as the pranks started getting dangerous. Others loved the destruction.

Long before the Rebel Mission was born, Eric and Dylan experimented with explosives.

In the summer of 1997, Eric, Dylan and Nate set off what they later called “crickets” (CO2 cartridge bombs) in the Chatfield Reservoir.

Eric kept a coffee can of black powder on a shelf on top of his desk according to Nate. This was powder that had been taken from the fireworks Eric and Dylan were given as part of their pay for working at the Fireworks stand on the corner of Platte Canyon and Kendall. This was the powder they used to experiment with their explosives.

Despite popular belief, Eric did not have a “bomb making kit” readily available to anyone who could peer into his closet. His bombs were kept in a shoebox.

They first experimented with pipe bombs in 1998 by detonating one on the corner of Deer Creek Canyon Road and Wadsworth Blvd. That summer they had detonated more pipe bombs in various places including a field off of Wadsworth Blvd south of I 470.

Did you know?

While Eric and Dylan’s friends helped them create and blow up bombs, they had no idea they were being used to prepare for a school massacre. Eric was a great liar, and it’s actually pretty normal for teenagers to experiment with explosives. No one knew that it was more than just a fixation for them.
